Future Plans
Plans for future versions of M Chart and M Chart Pro
Important!
These are wish lists, not promises.
These are features I’d like to add, but until something is finished and launched it isn’t, and can’t be, a commitment.
Please don’t use M Chart or purchase M Chart Pro for a feature that isn’t in the product today.
Buy for what exists now; treat anything here as a bonus if or when it ships.
Future core features
M Chart
- More supported chart types:
- Venn diagrams
- Geo charts (choropleth & bubble maps)
- Graph-like charts (tree & force-directed)
- Sankey diagrams
- Better support for time/date values
- Still thinking through the UI and auto-detection
- Label wrapping and/or proportional resizing for treemap labels
- They get squished or cut off too easily with the default behavior
Future Pro features
M Chart Pro
- Fancy tables, powered by DataTables JS library
- Automatic trend-line annotations
- Automatic line/point highlighting for important data, by context
- AI-generated chart descriptions for better accessibility
- Let a model see the data and the resulting chart and describe it textually for users with visual impairments
- An AI chart builder (via MCP?)
- Hand M Chart Pro your data and let a model format it, pick a chart type, and optionally add annotations to highlight what matters
- Per-chart color overrides that beat the theme defaults
- Text wrapping for annotation text
- Mixed chart types in a single chart
- Or maybe merging of multiple charts?
- The UI ramifications for this are tough
- More flexible external-data handling
- Optionally or automatically drop the first cell
- External data might not fit M Chart conventions like first cell empty meaning multi series data
- Choose which rows/columns to use for chart
- Similarly external data might include rows or columns the user doesn’t want to use
- Optionally or automatically drop the first cell
